Indonesian Animals that are Extinct

Is there an extinct animal Indonesia?. The answer is definitely there. Even I at least found a 6 (six) species of animals (wildlife) that have been declared extinct. The six animals were Javan tiger (Panthera tigris sondaica), Bali tiger (Panthera tigris balica), Verhoeven’s Giant Tree Rat (Papagomys theodorverhoeveni), Rat Nose Length Flores (Paulamys naso), Peacock Striped Double (Argusianus bipunctatus), and Mouse Cave Flores (Spelaeomys florensis).

The six animals have been declared extinct. Although for the Javan tiger (Panthera tigris sondaica), many experts and researchers (mainly from Indonesia) who believe the creature is still there. Following Indonesian wildlife that has been declared extinct by The International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN).

Java Tiger (Panthera tigris sondaica)

Java Tiger Tiger (Panthera tigris sondaica) is the kind of tigers that live on the island of Java. The tiger was declared extinct in the 1980s, due to poaching and development of agricultural land is reduced drastically the animal’s habitat. Even so, there is also the possibility of extinction is happening around the 1950’s when the tail is estimated that only 25 kinds of tigers living in their habitat. Last time there was a signal the existence of Java tiger was in 1972. In the year 1979, there were signs that lived three tigers living on the island of Java. Even so, there is little possibility of this animal is not extinct. In the 1990s there were some reports about the existence of this animal, although this could not be verified.

Javan tiger is small compared to other tiger species. Male tiger weighing 100-141 kg and a length of about 2:43 meters. Females are lighter weight, i.e. 75-115 kg and slightly shorter than the male.

Balinese tiger (Panthera tigris balica)

Balinese Tiger (Panthera tigris balica) is a subspecies of tigers are already extinct which can be found on the island of Bali, Indonesia. This tiger is one of the three sub-species of tiger in Indonesia, together with the Java tiger (also extinct) and Sumatran tiger (endangered species)

Balinese Tiger is the smallest of the three tiger sub-species. Last tiger was believed shot in 1925, and sub-species were declared extinct on September 27, 1937. Because of the small islands, forests are limited, a population that is not never been greater and is considered there were no survivors to this day.

Peacock Striped Double (Argusianus bipunctatus)

Double-banded Argus or Peacock Striped Double (Argusianus bipunctatus) is a type of poultry species is believed ever to have lived in Indonesia (Java and Sumatra) and Malaysia. Bergenus same wildlife that still exists today is the Peacock King (Argusianus argus). Double Striped Peacock is never found in nature, the description is based on a number of feathers that was sent to London and dipertelakan in 1871. IUCN include them in the extinct status.

Verhoeven’s Giant Tree Rat (Papagomys theodorverhoeveni)

Verhoeven’s Giant Tree Rat (Papagomys theodorverhoeveni) is a species of the family (tribe) rats (Muridae) that have ever lived on the island of Flores, Indonesia. The animal was declared extinct by IUCN in 1996. However, experts believe these animals have become extinct around 1500 BC. This species is only known from a few subfossil fragments found on the island of Flores, Indonesia.

Like Papagomy theodorverhoeveni, Flores Cave Rat (Spelaeomys florensis) animals from rat family is only known from a few sub fossil fragments found on the island of Flores, Indonesia.
